Interview With Fashion Designer Sheaffa Delince

Interview By Meera Rajagopalan: AskMissa.com

Austin Fashion Week has come and gone, but I am still reliving the sights and the designers. One designer’s show that is still playing in my head is Sheaffa. The bright colors, patterns and separates are all pieces I would love to add to my collection and are the perfect pieces for summer.

Designer Sheaffa Delince is based out of New York. She earned her bachelor’s degree from Florida International University, and then went on to pursue fashion at the Art Institute of Miami. After she completed this second degree, she opened her own boutique, featuring other designers.

I had the opportunity to interview her and ask her about some of her inspirations, customers and life.

Q: What is your inspiration for the collection?

A: Spring/Summer 2013 started from the idea of mixing colors. The idea of combining things (stripes and flowers) that are so different and combine them and mix them in a very beautiful way.

Q: If you had to describe your customer in three words what would they be?

A: Young, happy, feminine.

Q: What is one thing people would be surprised to know about you?

A: I was an architect.

Q: What are some non-profits or charities you work closely with or ones that you hold close to you?

A: Make a Wish Foundation and Breast Cancer Foundation.

Q: If you weren’t a designer, what would you be doing?

A: Wow, this question got me. Well, I did architecture before I changed to fashion, I guess I would do architecture.

One of her favorite quotes is “Architecture is the art of living, clothing helps fashion who you are,” which explains her perfect balance between the world of architecture and her world of fashion. She is definitely a designer to keep an eye out for. Her bold colors and vibrant prints really do make a splash on any catwalk.

After transitioning from the world of architecture to fashion design, Sheaffa Delince infused a refreshing, creative genius with garments that are gracefully refined. “Architecture is the art of living, clothing helps fashion who you are”; is her invigorative perspective that shapes her creativity and unique sense of style. Sheaffa is not one to be encapsulated in a fashion trend or her work to be marketed to a particular genre. Her free spiritedness is governed by her mood and inspiration, which allows her to explore design in “anything and everything.”

Her greatest form of flattery is to body sculpt her designs across all genres and let the clothes do the talking. This experience of custom design has enveloped and shaped her sense of creativity and uniqueness; so much so that when her ‘fashion moment’ comes along, clients with unblinking dedication to desire something of their own choosing, will have access to a designer who can shift gears at the ripe moment and procure a creation they can positively covet. Everyone should feel comfortable and confident about his or her personal sense of style; it will be the evolution in her signature, as she demands diversity from her collection.

AFWNY includes runway shows hosting 21+ designers from various countries in Africa and those of the African Diaspora, exhibitions, and industry networking events. Opening designers Francis Hendy, Korto Momolu, and designers like Mafi, Attolle Collection, Geraldo Fashions and others will showcase.
